The International Language Rights Observatory commends the work of the Commissioners in developing this report. We are very pleased to see that the Commissioners' recommendations reflect many of the issues raised in our brief (available in french here) and in our testimony before the Commissioners.
In particular, the Observatory welcomes the recommendations concerning the creation of a Department of Official Languages, the increase in the investigative powers of the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, the codification of the right of public servants to work in the official language of their choice, and the bringing of nursing homes under the Official Languages Act.
